INDIA: THE HOST COUNTRY

India is a wonderful country of great diversity, from the exotic scenic beauty of great Himalayas with eternal snow capped mountains in the north to the luxuriant coconut groves of the Malabar Coast in the South; from the desolate loneliness of the deserts and dotted with beautiful palaces in Rajasthan in the west to the rich cultivated thickly populated Gangetic plains in the east.

 

It has more than 7600 km long beautiful coastline, which attracts tourists round the year. India has a civilization which is more than 5000 years old. The glories of the past stand side-by-side with wonders of modern science and engineering. India has a great and stirring past. There is indication that her future will be even greater.

Kolkata is a vibrant modern metropolis of 10 million plus population and is the Gateway to Eastern and Northern and Northeastern States of India. The city is well connected by international and domestic airlines and also by rail network with rest of the country.

Kolkata is appropriately regarded as the cultural capital of India for its immense contribution in these fields. Kolkata has a very pleasant climate in the month of December when the maximum day temperature is around 22-240C and nights cool down to 10-120C. Kolkata is also aptly called the Mining Capital of India too because of its proximity to major coalfields and metal mining belts.
